By Shepherd Mutamba NORTON – Sam Mtukudzi’s album Cheziya has been released posthumously by Tuku Music and goes on sale starting Monday 28 June. The release, Sam’s second after his debut Rume Rimwe in 2007 is described by parents Tuku and wife Daisy as a rare gift from a loving son killed tragically in a car accident this year. Today Tuku and wife Daisy issued official special tributes to their young boy ahead of Cheziya hitting the shops. Says Tuku: “I take Cheziya as a gift from Sam to his parents - a gift to say to me and his mother remember me always. Cheziya is a gift that I will treasure for life because the album has extraordinary meaning that my son was conveying to me. The album reflects Sam saying goodbye and I say so because of his profound lyrics. Sam was consoling me and his mother over his passing which he prophesised in his music. That is what I see about the album when I look at events in retrospect now. Cheziya has a lot to do with us as the Mtukudzi family. It talks about the power of God - that God is there for us always. But above all Cheziya celebrates the life of a young boy lived entirely well to the very end.”
Says Daisy: “Whenever I listen to Cheziya I find myself communicating with my son. The album provides me the strength to move on daily albeit untold difficulty. I want to be strong - I want Sam to give me strength. The album has so much meaning now after Sam’s death. It is an album full of prophesy where Sam exhorts us to be strong when he is gone. Cheziya looks at life and its values in a deeply philosophical manner for only a young boy as Sam. I hope Sam’s many fans and family find consolation in Cheziya.” Two days before Sam (22) died on March 15 2010, in the same horrific crash that killed his close friend Owen Chimhare (24) who was sound engineer in Sam’s Ay Band, both had returned from sound mixing Cheziya in South Africa. They had set launching the CD a few days later on April 01, to coincide with Sam’s birthday. As fate would have it, that was never to be. In memory of the fine young man get your copy of Cheziya. Tuku Music will always value the continued support of our fans across the world.
