NORTON –Tuku Music clarifies our official position following certain deliberate distortions blatantly violating contractual agreements by some promoters of Tuku’s solo performances in Harare recently. Nowadays Tuku, because of the different musical tastes of his ever growing fan base, is providing quite a flexible platform that allows for wider choice where promoters can either select to have him play solo, as a duet, trio, in a quartet or with the full complement of the Black Spirits Band.
Yet there are also those who favour solo shows because of the family environment where they can bring along young children for an afternoon braai outing. Other fans just love lesser crowds, away from the more public performances, where thousands of fans throng to celebrate the gift of life through music. On the other hand are others who prefer the more frenzied public shows with the carnival atmosphere and huge masses of people. The strength of Tuku’s music is not entirely in the diversity of powerful messages in his repertoire but also his ability to still bring out the profound social commentary on the basis of a one-man show or as a duet or trio and still satisfy his fans. But we have observed, in recent weeks, that some venues in Harare have created quite worrisome confusion amongst our fans by advertising Tuku’s solo shows in a devious manner insinuating he would perform with his full complement of musicians in the Black Spirits Band. The distortion and brazen violation of the contractual agreements between ourselves and the venue owners in question has misled our fans. We have officially communicated our displeasure at the deplorable behavior by these promoters and we hope they can only be more professional in the future given the weight of responsibility they carry in music promotion. We greatly appreciate the continued support of our fans and the partnership with music promoters who have immensely helped the music genre sustain business in the arts sector. – Issued by Shepherd Mutamba, Publicist Tuku Music. |
