| Tuku awarded for uplifting African women |

HARARE – The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) and the International Council of Africana Womanism (ICAW) have jointly honoured Tuku in recognition of his luminary role in uplifting African women through his artistic work - music and a diversity of art forms - offered as community development at his arts academy at Pakare Paye in Norton. Tuku’s wife Daisy received the award on behalf of her husband at a banquet held at the University of Zimbabwe’s Great Hall Friday night. Tuku is away for the month-long Acoustic Africa Tour of Europe.
In their citation the UZ and ICAW said they awarded Tuku’s sterling contribution towards the uplifting of the generality of the Zimbabwean people particularly women and children.

“As Zimbabweans we are beneficiaries of the examples of commitment, honesty, humility, perseverance and dignity associated with Oliver Mtukudzi as a cultural icon and musical brand and we feel that it is in order that Mtukudzi should be honoured for the great work that he has done and continues to do so for all of us,” the citation said.
