NORTON – The Sam Mtukudzi Conference Centre is a multi-purpose hall now generally operational but with a few finishing touches here and there.

The hall is named in honour of the late musician and son of the Mtukudzis, Oliver and Daisy who founded Pakare Paye. Sam was also a board member of the centre.

In fact it was Sam’s idea that the layout plan for the second phase of development at Pakare Paye included a conference hall. His wish was fulfilled.

Now, life-size pieces of sculptures - an elephant and its baby (Nzou neMhuru)- stand imposingly outside the hall in tribute to Oliver and his departed son. The elephant is the totem of the clan of the Mtukudzis. Acclaimed sculptor Dominic Benhura made the priceless pieces.

The hall is designed for live performances, conferencing and social functions. What is means now is that with the new hall we can host two conferences, or any other indoors functions, all at once – in the Sam Mtukudzi Conference Centre and in the old auditorium at the adjoining first phase of the centre.

Fully air-conditioned and overlooking a garden of lush green lawns and indigenous trees the hall adjoins a reception area and new offices.

A recording studio is under construction within the complex of the hall including a shopping mall, a kitchen and dining room.

Ultimately the entire centre will have two kitchens and an equal number of dining rooms including the already existing facilities. A bakery is already complete and ready to roll out fresh ‘n hot bread. – tukumusik.com
