HARARE – Tuku had an entirely safe journey in and out of Swaziland for the Bushfire Festival at the weekend despite threats to harm him by certain democracy campaigners in that country. Now, Tuku is looking forward to a concert at Carnival City in Johannesburg on Saturday. The campaigners had called for a cultural boycott of Bushfire, their argument being that performing in Swaziland would legitimize King Mswati III whom the democracy crusaders accuse of violating human rights in Africa’s last absolute monarchy. Tuku had a very clear conscience when he travelled to Swaziland, as a social change advocate, and the democracy campaigners should have viewed his visit in that light where he was using the festival as a platform to reach out with the message of love, peace, tolerance and respect for human rights. – tukumusik.com |
