NORTON - Tuku this Friday launches a requests show where he performs for free with selected friends every first week of the month at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton.

The request show under the banner “PaGokoro naTuku” sees Tuku inviting fellow musicians to Norton and playing with them his fans’ favourite tunes as per their request.

It is a bring-your-choice-of-song set-up where fans choose what songs they want from Tuku from the songs of the 1970s to this day.

This Friday (8 July) Tuku debuts the concept with an old timer Max Chiwara of the Chimusoro wanyanya…chimusoro mayaya (off Bvongodzamuto – 1982 release) whom he played with in The Black Spirits in the early 1980s.

Chiwara played the second guitar then alongside the likes of the late Kenny Munemo, the late Robert Mtukudzi, Picky Kasamba and others and recorded albums including Shanje.

For most of the week Tuku, Chiwara and others have been in rehearsal for the launch of PaGokoro naTuku.

The whole idea is for Tuku to have a day in a month when he meets with his fans and plays for them for free away from the more hectic shows.

“I want to have quality time with my friends in music and have fun with our fans tichitandara zvedu and we play their requests, something we cannot do at the more hectic shows. We will go into rehearsal every time I am inviting a friend so that our performance is coherent,” said Tuku.
Because we are in winter the launch show is indoors but in summer we go outdoors at the Gokoro Bar.

The show starts at 8pm and it is absolutely free. Dress code is smart casual and strictly no children.

Come, let us have fun. – tukumusik.com
