NORTON –Tuku’s tireless work with children continues to be recognised across the social sectors.

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Labour and Social Services recently organized a Careers Day for schools in Mashonaland West province at St Eric’s High School here bringing together employers, training institutions and students to share information about careers and training opportunities available in different sectors of the economy.

Tuku was invited as the guest of honour and spent five hours with the students. He toured stands and attended sessions conducted by resources persons for students before addressing the students.

His theme was Career Guidance Today.

“There is great need to debunk the myth that the only chance of future employment, considering the current unemployment levels, is gaining some professional qualification. Indeed vocational training and maximizing potential in talent can land one into a life sustaining occupation,” Tuku told the students.

“I went to school for the wrong reasons because I wanted to please my parents that I was in school. But you must not go to school because you want to please your parents. Go to school to choose careers of your individual choices, something that defines your individual talents and capabilities. You can’t be in school because your parents want you to be an engineer when you know very well that you are inclined to the arts and that you are good in that area. Don’t fall into the trap of being in school and learning but coming out uneducated,” said Tuku.

“With proper career coaching a job search would be easier and you would be able to bridge the gap between job availability and your qualifications. Whether one is looking for a new career or a career change, career guidance can help in smoothening out this important path of transition.”

Tuku works with children in various areas seeking to stimulate positive social change and the sustainable development of children. He was recently appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Eastern and Southern Africa amongst numerous other accolades he has received for uplifting the cause of women and children through his music, community and humanitarian work. – Shepherd Mutamba / tukumusik.com
