NORTON – Tuku, wife Daisy and family, the entire Tuku Music Company and Pakare Paye Arts Centre are in mourning following the death of Wonder Mukonowenzou (41) our technical director, sound engineer and board member.

Wonder, whom we all called sekuru (elderman), for his wisdom and love, had been admitted for four days at Father O’Hea Hospital, at Kutama, in Zvimba. He died yesterday Thursday 15th September 2011 from natural causes.

Sekuru Wonder was also Tuku’s uncle from the paternal side and both had worked together since when Wonder was fairly youthful.

While he remained sort of behind-the-scenes, by virtue of his job as sound engineer, Wonder’s work and skills were very much visible in Tuku’s recordings that he engineered over many, many years.

Humorous and ever energetic, Wonder made things happen in any situation. Mr Fix It, kind of guy, loved by all for his charm.

But our man has not departed with his sound and technical skills. He mentored, over the years, many youngsters who had now mastered the art and skill of sound and will continue Wonder’s legacy on the mixer. But we will all miss him deeply nevertheless because there can never be another sekuru Wonder. He was unique. His wit as MC, his stand-up comedy, too, and the cross-bands that he so loved to wear with white pointed shoes now gone.

At this dark hour for us, we don’t forget in our prayers Wonder’s widow and their three lovely children. – tukumusik.com
