The classics selection is not just another compilation of golden oldies from his early recordings since 1975. These are the all-time hits. Music that has stood the test of time. The absolute classics! “But what I can say is that the classics will be out towards the end of 2010 after which I’m taking the album on the world tour until sometime in 2011. “The idea is to touch all the continents. We have a huge following, friends of Tuku Music and associates nearly globally and we want to share this new sound and new feel. Its different flavour, its different experience altogether.” The world tour has breathers to allow Tuku to shuttle between overseas and Zimbabwe for his local and regional dates. A calendar of the classics world tour will be released in due course. By re-recording the classics Tuku is giving the old music today’s sound. He is reassuring and reinforcing the position of classics in today’s highly competitive music world. “Re-recording the hits will not take away anything from the music but will add value to the sound.” While the finer detail of the classics project and world tour is still a bit under wraps it may not be surprising, however, that the advent of traditional instruments in Tuku’s music - the mbira and marimba - may just have been another inspiration for him to re-record the classics and give them a completely new feel although his trademark acoustic guitar remains sacredly the driving force behind all his music. – tukumusik.com |
