Everyone at Tuku Music and Pakare Paye Arts Centre, the arts academy founded by Tuku in 2003, views the lecture as a special way that distinguishes Tuku as a fairly venerable personality and his many silent stories of remarkable fortitude in the face of adversity. Speaking on Music as Business & the Arts as Technology at that level is an honour, recognition and a testament to Tuku’s connection to daily life encounters, to showbiz as a huge enterprise and to the adaptation of technology by the arts. The lecture is a medium in itself where Tuku will express and project his artistry and business including his lifetime achievements in a period spanning over 35 years of hard work making music, film and developing young talent alongside his humanitarian work as a philanthropist who has dedicated his life to social transformation. Just last year Tuku scored two milestone achievements for his work both as an artist and humanitarian. He received an honorary M.Sc (Fine Arts) degree from the Women’s University in Africa and was named Cultural Ambassador for Project Concern International at a ceremony in San Diego in the United States. Meanwhile, the same day of his lecture Tuku visits diabetic patients at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital. Tuku himself is diabetic and has already indicated this year his desire to help raise public awareness on the condition that is a huge silent killer worldwide. Tuku will also handout leaflets and other literature on diabetes in a walkabout town in Chinhoyi. He will also visit a jazz spot located on a farm at Shankuru, on the outskirts of Chinhoyi, to familiarize himself with the developments in the arts in the small agricultural town. But the evening is the night that Chinhoyi fans of Tuku’s have been waiting for including those in neighboring Banket, Zvimba, Alaska even Karoi. After the lecture and the visits, when everything has been said and done, Tuku and The Black Spirits are setting Chinhoyi on fire with the long awaited performance in the town - at the university campus. – tukumusik.com |
